Other Table Building HintsAsk yourself about journal formats. Journal titles these days can appear in several formats: paper (hard copy), CD-ROM, the Web (in several digital formats). Do you need to plan for more than one format? What is the relationship between the journal and its formats?Ask yourself if you need to separate publishers from vendors. In the
USA many librarians purchase several (or all) of their journals through
a supplier, vendor or jobber whose responsibility it is to make sure that
many of the administrative details are taken care of. Administrative details
include ordering or renewing journal titles, placing claims, and so on.
Vendors may also supply electronic versions in CD-ROM format along with,
or separate from the hard copy version. This saves the librarian
time. It may cost additional money, but labor costs for handling serial
issues are reduced.
For More InformationIf you are not familiar with processing journals, contact your nearest School of Library and Information Science, a librarian colleague or a Library School student for help. |
