The fountain was built in 1452 in response to a petition presented by the Compagnia di Pantaneto; it is found at the beginning of Via Pantaneto, practically under the Logge del Papa. It is fed by water coming from the overflow of Fonte Gaia. Over the years it has be the object of various restorations.
