Fonte di San Maurizio

(Also know as either Fonte di Samoreci or Fonte del Ponte)

Fonte di San MaurizioThe San Maurizio Fountain stands along the route of the Via Francigena (the medieval road from France to Rome that passes through Siena), near the Roman Bridge, outside the Porta of San Maurizio. It is fed by the overflow from the Fonte Gaia, and thus was built after 1343, appearing in in the documents for the first time in 1351. It was recently restored and its current appearance does not necessarily reflect its original design.
