Fonte di Pescaia

Fonte PescaiaThe date of this fountain's origin is not certain, all we know is that it was built to supply the basins and pools that furnished fish to the city, hence the name Pescaia. We do know that in 1226 it was in use and maintained by the city. Today the fountain is encumbered by more recent construction in the upper stories, but nonetheless, it is the only fountain that preserves traces of its original crenalated parapets (which can be seen across the middle of the photograph).
