  • County Business Patterns "County Business Patterns is an annual series that provides subnational economic data by industry. The series is useful for studying the economic activity of small areas; analyzing economic changes over time; and as a benchmark for statistical series, surveys, and databases between economic censuses. Businesses use the data for analyzing market potential, measuring the effectiveness of sales and advertising programs, setting sales quotas, and developing budgets. Government agencies use the data for administration and planning."

    "County Business Patterns covers most of the country's economic activity. The series excludes data on self-employed individuals, employees of private households, railroad employees, agricultural production employees, and most government employees. Beginning in 1998, data are tabulated by industry as defined in the North American Industry Classification System: United States, 1997 (NAICS). • The Numbers Game: The Top 10 Sources for Statistics; by Paula Berinstein. ONLINE, March 1998 (with search tips) "Statistics are among the hardest kinds of information to find," according to Paula Berinstein in "The Numbers Game: The Top 10 Sources for Statistics" (ONLINE, vol. 22, no. 2, March 1998, pp. 61-65). Nonetheless, Berinstein has located ten sources that answer a large number of researchers' statistical questions. Most of the sources are available on the Web, as well as in print format. She also includes a list of tips for finding statistics online.

  • Occupational Employment Statistics The Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) program produces employment and wage estimates for over 700 occupations. These are estimates of the number of people employed in certain occupations, and estimates of the wages paid to them.
  • Covered Employment and Wages (CEW) CEW annual data are now available; ... marks a major expansion of the economic information contained in the BLS database. CEW (also known as ES-202) data include information at the most detailed industry level (4-digit Standard Industrial Classification level) on establishment counts, annual employment, and annual and weekly wages for every county (most timely county data available), Metropolitan Statistical Area, and state levels... and national totals. This first release covers data for the years 1997 and 1998.

    • 1992 CENSUS OF TRANSPORTATION, COMMUNICATIONS, AND UTILITIES To provide periodic and comprehensive data about transportation, communications, and utilities establishments and their activities. The United States Code, Title 13, authorizes this census and provides for mandatory responses.
    • Commodity Flow Survey The Commodity Flow Survey (CFS) obtains data on shipments by domestic establishments in manufacturing, wholesale, mining, and selected other industries. The CFS is conducted as part of the Economic Census by the U.S. Census Bureau in partnership with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
    • Geographic Information Services The Bureau's Geographic Information Services are a national resource for transportation spatial data and GIS in transportation (GIS-T) information.
    • Geographic Information Services: INTERMODAL NETWORK BTS, with the assistance of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory's (ORNL) Center for Transportation Analysis, has created a multimodal network that can be used in routing applications. The products from this effort include both a combined multi-modal network and separate networks for each individual transportation mode.
