According to the Human Geography dictionary," NIMBY is an attitude towards locational issues typical of individuals who resist the siting of a source of negative externalities next to their homes and campaign for its location elsewhere". Many churches are faced with this NIMBY attitude because of possible negative externalities they may bring. Such as increase in traffic levels and if construction takes place such as pavement issues of possilble sewage problems. To bring this NIMBY attitude to a local perspective the possible location of Overlake church in the Eastside brought out many people from that community to city meetings. Many from the neighborhood were concerned with the issue of increasement in traffic levels, since Overlake is the largest church in the Pacific Northwest. At this time the Eastside has no particular zoned area for churches, but their are many strenous zoning regulations they must follow.
