Congestion Inflates Local Cost of Living

In recent years
consumer prices have risen more rapidly in the Seattle area than
in the nation as a whole. Seattle
traffic congestion is notorious. In this brief we provide evidence that
congestion is a cause of inflation on the local level. Over the last 17
years, increases in congestion may have added more than
0.5 percent per year to the Seattle area inflation rate.
