State Economy Continues to Decline PI, Oct 26, 2001.
The Washington state economy slipped into a slower gear last month, as the
state Index of Leading Economic Indicators hit its lowest point in
six years. The index -- a mix of seven pieces of economic data --
- Weekly hours in manufacturing
- Aerospace employment
- initial claims for unemployment insurance
- housing permits
- Seattle Times help-wanted index
- "trade-weighted
dollar"
- U.S.leading
indicators
fell to 97.7 in September from 98.6
the month before, and 105.1 in January, according to
data released by the Office of the
Forecast Council yesterday.
The decline reflects, in part, regional and national
economies struggling with the
economic stall that immediately followed the terrorist
attacks Sept. 11 and the continuing
fallout.
