Alternative Group Structures, Strategies and Products

The following scheme of alternative Groups and Group Projects has, in part, been presented in class on February 1, 2001. It shows that you have options as to how to approach your individual and group projects. As there are many different types of group pratices, networks and alliances in the modern service sector of the "New Economy", the formation of "Consulting Groups" in this class is not rigidly regulated by the instructor. However, it is suggested that every group should identify its internal structure on the basis of the following scheme(s) and that every group member should be clear as to what her/his relationship to the group or a sub-group might be. For example, it is perfectly conceivable, that a type II group may consist of one or more type I subgroups, as well as of members who develop their project more or less individually.

Type A

Groups or Subgroups have members with the same, similar or overlapping consulting specializations

Type B

Groups or Subgroups have members with different but complementary skills or consulting specializations

Type I

Groups or Subgroups submit One Joint Project or Proposal or Business Plan
(Individual contributions [paragraphs, resources etc.] to the Joint Submission should be initialed)

Type II

Groups submit Consulting Projects, Consulting Proposals or Business Plans for a Consulting firm or a Nonprofit Advocacy organization for each individual member or Subgroup under One Overall Coordinated Umbrella, including Joint Outline (Table of Contents) and Introduction

Type PROJECT PROPOSAL

Groups, Subgroups or individual group members submit a PROPOSAL as a bid for a Consulting Contract. Deadline for submission of Proposal: March 2.

Type FINISHED PROJECT

Groups, Subgroups or individual group members are assumed to have already contracted a Consulting Project and are actually finishing the project by March 2.

Type BUSINESS PLAN

Groups, Subgroups or Individual Group Members submit the geographically significant components of a Business Plan for a consulting firm or advocacy /social service nonprofit organization. Deadline: March 2.
