Lucas Ahlstrand Asst. #1 Hello- My name is Lucas Ahlstrand. I am originally from Oakland, California. I went to Castro Valley High School and before coming to Washington I attended Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Ca. Here at Washington I haven't taken too many classes having to do with Geography. I've taken a couple of Economics classes and 1 political science class. My job experiences are limited to say the least. Every summer throughout high school I was a life quard. In between Orange Coast and Washington I worked retail at Abercrombie& Fitch. Then finally last summer I worked construction here in Seattle. My expectations for this class are very simple, I want to get a broad view of what Economic Geography is. I intend to get a lot of information from this class and hopefully find a major. My expectations of you in this class are simple as well, I want you to offer information in a easy to understand way. I also want it to be an interesting class that I don't dread going to. I think that I'm going to try and soak up as much information from this class as possible. I have no specific interests as of yet but I plan on getting some throughout this course. I am a very logical thinker and am O.K. at writing, That is I can put my thoughts on paper without much trouble. I expect to get any and all of my knowledge concerning geography. I am familiar with computers and can get around if given enough time but I am not familiar with any specific program. My early impressions of the textbook are exactly how I expected it to be, a no frills down to business book on the subject at hand. The readings are very straight forward and informative. Location Quotient Since I^Òm doing Redhook brewery I was going to do the employment of the breweries compared with the total employment of the U.S. However I couldn^Òt ascertain the information I needed for that particular location quotient. So I changed to something very similar. Because Redhook only distributes to the lower 48 states I took the total population of those states and found the number of drinkers (persons over 21) in those states. Also, I took the population of Seattle and the number of drinkers in the area. It went like this: Total: Non-drinkers Seattle 861,590 ------------ Population Seattle 2,334,934 ---------------------------- U.S. over 21 74,386,374 --------------- Lower 48 states 273,064,003 .368999723 = -------------- .272413695 = 1.354556433 As for these results, I didn^Òt have any expectations of what they would be so this is just some information to help me along with my project. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
