Who can participate? 

University students (post graduates including current seniors) at partner institutions are eligible and receive some travel and financial aid.   In addition to backgrounds in chemistry, chemical engineering, food science, biochemistry, and other topics related to biorenewable resources, applicants should have foreign language skills.   Stipends to support learning the language at the chosen institution may be applied for prior to departure.  Students should plan to participate in an orientation at the host institution.

How do students apply?

Students in good academic standing at each partner institution should submit the following to the participating faculty at their home institutions

What are the selection criteria and procedures ?

Applicants, who are graduate [and seniors] students in good standing, should submit the folllowing to the program contact person (faculty mentor) at their home institution before March 31, 2005 for Fall 2005 exchange.  However, applications for 2006 will be accepted after that date.

What are the research, project, and course topics?

utilization and synthesis of biorenewable resources, such as agricultural products for non-food uses
biochemistry of lipids, carbohydrates, oils from oil seeds
biodiesel production and utilization
bio-based industrial and consumer products
silvachemicals (chemicals from wood) and non-traditional materials from wood and its polymers
