Professional Biographical Data

1987: Graduated from Lynbrook High School in San Jose, CA.

1991: B.M. in Music from SFSU. Focused on piano performance and composition. Advisor: Wayne Petersen. Won the Presser Award for composition.

1991 - 1996: Worked as musician, composer, painter, graphic designer, espresso jockey and computer programmer. Lived a generally impractical professional life.

1996: B.S. in Computer Science from SFSU.

1996: Worked briefly for inquiry.com, a silicon valley startup that went nowhere.

1998: M.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

2001: Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Advisor: Dan Koditschek. Co-advisor: Bill Rounds. Thesis title: Decentralized Regulation of Cyclic Processes. Worked on automated manufacturing, juggling, hopping and six-legged robots. Funded in part by a Charles DeVlieg Fellowship in Manufacturing.

2001 - 2003: Postoc at the California Institute of Technology. Advisor: Richard Murray. Worked on multi-vehicle systems, formal verification and self-assembly.

2003 - present: Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington. Awarded an NSF CAREER Award in 2003.

Eric lives in Seattle with his wife Laurie and sons Dylan and Brendan.
