Homework Assignment 4: Comparison of Notorious and Shadow of a Doubt

Notorious and Shadow of a Doubt both portray principal characters with "dual" personalities. Before Wednesday, January 19, view both films and do the following:

1) Segment the opening scene of each film, assigning letters to the shots in each scene.  End your segmentation of Shadow of a Doubtat the first family dinner.  End your segmentation of Notorious at the point when Alicia and Devlin arrive in Rio and meet at the café.

2) Examine your segmentations, looking for patterns of similarity and difference among the shots in each film and between the shots in both films.

3) Pose two to three arguments regarding the ways in which the opening scenes of the films reveal the duality of both Alicia and Uncle Charlie, listing evidence from the segmentation to support your point.

Bring your homework to class on Wednesday, January 19.
