PSA Campaign Grading

The class identified the following criteria for assessing the PSA Campaign:

  • Features language, content, choice of modes, and tone of visuals and linguistic information tailored to a specific audience, purpose, context and set of genre conventions
  • Clearly communicates a relevant public service message and call to action
  • All site components have a clear function within the campaign
  • Individual site components and the site as a whole purposefully use modes to convey a message, mount appeals, and persuade audience members to take specific action
  • "About This Campaign" statement presents a persuasive, well-supported analysis of the context, audience, purpose, use of modes and design choices in the PSA campaign
  • Individual site components and the site as a whole effectively use design elements--emphasis, contrast, organization, alignment, proximity—to create visual impact, make appeals, and underscore a specific message and action
  • Features intuitive navigation that logically categorizes site content
  • Integrates current, credible research on a public service issue and effectively transforms researched information to serve the campaign's rhetorical situation
  • Ethically incorporates and cites data and media from other creators
  • Includes all required content

I will use the following grade sheet to assess performance on the criteria we outlined. Those working in groups may opt to receive a group grade or an individual grade that combines evaluation of an individually authored self/group assessment (20 points) and the collaboratively authored PSA Campaign (80 points).

Failure to submit required drafts and participate in in-class peer review will result in a 10-point deduction from the final project grade, as the ability to consider and revise from feedback is an essential component of the course. Late final drafts will receive a 10-point deduction per day late, including weekends and holidays.
