Course Content:

This course is intended for beginning graduate students interested in the field of ecology.  We will sample topics from population ecology, community ecology, ecosystem ecology, and evolutionary ecology, reading some of the classic papers from these subdisciplines.  In addition, we will discuss some practical techniques including experimental design, statistical analysis of data, and abstract model building.  Tuesdays will be hour-long lecture-based discussions of readings and related topics.  Thursdays will be "hands-on" labs in which students will conduct field work, laboratory experiments and computer-based simulations to explore a topic previously discussed.
