Urine colors get darker
as solute (waste concentrations increase). The darker urines
have higher specific gravity values than the lightest
colored urine which should be isotonic with your
cells.

|
As blood glucose rises
in Diabetes, so much glucose may filter across the glomeruli
that the nephron's can't reabsorb it all. The amount of
glucose above the renal threshold value is lost in
urine.

|
If we drink water when
we are at a normal hydration level (i.e. our plasma is
isotonic), the excess water is quickly lost by filtration in
the nephrons.

Hydrometer in Water.
The specific gravity of water should be 1.000.

|
Hydrometer in 3.5% NaCl
solution. From the top of the hydrometr, the numbers read
1.000, 1.010... The 1 isn't showing in the image.

|
Hydrometer in Surge
(soft drink). This has a very high specific gravity from the
large amount of sugar & salts in the solution.
