Closer view of some of
the renal pyramids in the renal medulla & the calyces
that collect urine from each pyramid's renal papilla.

Section 2 The large
cavity in the upper region of this kidney is probably a cyst
that formed after an infection that destroyed some of the
nephrons.

The renal pelvis is the
larger cavity formed by the merger of the calyces. Urine in
the renal pelvis exits out of the kidney into the
ureter.
