Section 1

Red latex should be injected into arteries while blue latex should be injected into veins. There may be remnants of yellow latex in the renal pelvis & calyces (where urine collects before exiting via the ureter).

Closer view of some of the renal pyramids in the renal medulla & the calyces that collect urine from each pyramid's renal papilla.

Section 2 The large cavity in the upper region of this kidney is probably a cyst that formed after an infection that destroyed some of the nephrons.

The renal pelvis is the larger cavity formed by the merger of the calyces. Urine in the renal pelvis exits out of the kidney into the ureter.
