Born in Singapore in 1973, Su-en Wong grew up with aspirations of becoming a ballerina. At age 16 she left Singapore and traveled to the US to embark on a career as a concert pianist. She soon discovered stage fright, as well as an affinity and true love for painting and drawing. In 1997 she received her MFA in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and went on to finish studio residencies at the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation, New York and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Maine. Her solo exhibitions have appeared at Stefan Stux Gallery, New York (1999) and the Chicago Cultural Centre (1999). Stunning group exhibitions were held at the Kwangju International Biennale, Korea (2000), Zolla/Lieberman Gallery, Chicago (2000), and the Tobey Gallery, Memphis College of Art, (1998). Su-en is represented by Deitch Projects, New York and Shoshana Wayne Gallery, California. As recently as Spring 2003 she simply took the State of Oregon by storm in a show at Portland's Savage Gallery. Now, in September of 2003, she is working like mad for her LA and Chicago shows, which are very close to each other, in November and December. This awesome creature is currently living and working in the fortunate environs of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. One can only ask, " What world will she conquer next?"
