{"id":295,"date":"2018-01-29T16:07:28","date_gmt":"2018-01-29T23:07:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/faculty.washington.edu\/jscholl\/?p=295"},"modified":"2018-01-29T16:07:28","modified_gmt":"2018-01-29T23:07:28","slug":"speaker-series-invitation-to-attend-disaster-information-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/faculty.washington.edu\/jscholl\/2018\/01\/29\/speaker-series-invitation-to-attend-disaster-information-management\/","title":{"rendered":"Speaker Series (Invitation to Attend) &#8212; Disaster Information Management\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\"><em><strong>Announcement<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\" \/>In recent years, the general public has developed a growing understanding of the fact that the Pacific Northwest might be severely affected by a range of serious disasters including potentially catastrophic incidents, for example, a rupture of tectonic plates along the Cascadia Subduction Zone resulting in an earthquake of magnitude 9 plus.<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>Professional responders in the area have fully engaged in planning and preparing, so to be able to cope with such an incident once it happens.\u00a0<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>During this winter quarter the UW Information School is holding a series of one-hour invited talks featuring leading emergency and disaster managers of the Pacific Northwest. The formal presentation of some 40 minutes in duration will be followed by a question-and-answer session of about 20 minutes.<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>The speakers will address in particular challenges for responders in the context of \u201csituational awareness\u201d and \u201cmanagerial coordination.\u201d The speaker series will be open to the public. \u00a0<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>The speaker series is part of the INFX 598 research seminar conducted by Prof. Hans J Scholl of the Universitry of Washington\u2019s Information School.<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>Since space is limited, RSVPs are required.
