STAT 583: Advanced Theory of Statistical Inference
Spring Quarter 1998
Class Project: Peer Evaluation/Rating of Talks
I will ask each of you to rate the other talks during
Spring quarter -- just as I will also do.
The plan is to proceed as follows:
you will give points from 1 to 10 (1 being
poor or unsatisfactory; 10 being excellent or superb) for
the following 12 questions/items (A - L),
and will give one-sentence responses for items M and N.
Combined responses from the class will be shared with
the speaker, but will otherwise be available only to
the instructor.
-
Was the talk designed for the audience?
-
Was the speaker well-prepared?
-
If the speaker used slides, were they clear and legible?
If the speaker used the blackboard, was his or her writing legible?
-
Was the speaker's voice understandable -- sufficiently loud, clear,
and well - paced (not too fast or too slow)?
-
Was the speaker enthusiastic?
-
Did the speaker look at the audience?
-
Did the speaker seem relaxed and in control of the material
(or did the speaker fidget with the slides or pointer).
-
Did the speaker finish on time?
-
Were questions answered well (courteously, concisely, accurately)?
-
Was the talk interesting? Did you learn something new?
-
How would you rate the depth or difficulty of the material covered?
-
How would you rate this talk in terms of research potential
(opportunity for further work)?
-
What did you like most about the talk? (One sentence.)
-
On what aspect of the talk should the speaker work to improve?
(One sentence.)
