Welcome to the
Winter 2011 offering of C++ Introduction.
I am supplementing the material on the main UW Outreach course page with the web page that I use for the classroom offering, class homepage. On that web page, I have included all of the slides that we use in lecture plus the source code for all of the lecture examples. You'll find a collection of other good information there as well.
For discussion, we have the discussion board that comes with the main UW Outreach course page and the one that I have with the classroom homepage.
I will try to be available to answer questions until about 11:55 PM PST seven days a week. Since I am also teaching several classes during the day, my daytime responses may be a bit delayed.
I have been teaching for over 30 years; however, this is the second time that I have taught an online class. So, it looks like we'll both be learning.
If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask - try to solve the problem first, yourself, though. If I don't have an immediate answer, I'll try to find one and get back with you.
Please take the time to go through the different sections on the class homepage that I've listed on our course web site (where you are reading this). Of particular importance is the Workload and Grading page which outlines the major deliverables and format for each assignment.
We do not recommend or specify any particular compiler. Some known good ones are those from Microsoft - the Visual Studio Family, Free Software Foundation - the GNU tools, Apple - XCODE, Metrowerks - Code Warrior.
Let's have a good class. I look forward to working with everyone.
Cheers,
jkp
