Homework #2 BES 301 Autumn 2005

Reading Assignment:

• For Monday, October 10, read and study Hatton up through p. 45.
• For Wednesday, October 12, read and study through p. 59 of Hatton.

Take notes in your class journal. Be prepared to participate or take the lead in a class discussion on aspects of these readings.

Research Assignment:

Make significant progress on your observations/questions/hypotheses during this week, as they will be due on Oct 17. At this point, you may confer with your partner about your progress, but each student is to individually carry out the assignment. That is, you should not work on it as a team, but are free to confer with each other about what you are doing and the progress you are making. If nothing else, this allows you to avoid duplicate observations and questions.

Written Assignment

• Kneller and Bauer have written two essays (in Hatton) that seem to disagree with each other about the “scientific method.” Write a short essay (no more than one page) indicating in what ways you believe they agree and in what ways you believe they disagree about the scientific method. You should be specific in making this comparison and contrast. Cite page numbers in Hatton to reference the specific points you are discussing.
