Homework #1 BES 301 Autumn 2005

Reading Assignment:

· For Monday, October 3, read and study chapter 1 of Valiela

· For Wednesday, October 5, read and study pp 11-37 of Hatton.

Take notes in your class journal. Be prepared to participate or take the lead in a class discussion on aspects of these readings.

Research Assignment:

· Read and understand the handout on the Observation, Questions, and Hypotheses exercise. You need to start on this right away, and probably consult the reference librarian, in order to have it completed by October 17.

Other Assignments

· Complete the class survey (see web site for url).

· Turn in a “test assignment” to the E-submit web site before class on Monday, October 3. (Simply turn in a *doc file with a test message on it.)
