Assignment #1 March 29
Reading Assignments and prep work for class:
- Chapter 13 of Zumdahl: Secs 13.1-13.4; 13.6-13.10 (skip section 13.5)
- For Monday, March 29 –
- Download Supplemental Activity #1 (SA1 on course web site handouts) and prepare the “key questions 1-7” on the worksheet itself after reading the background material in SA1. The key questions are prepared before class.
- For Wednesday, March 31 -
- Download Supplemental Activity #2 (SA2 on course web site handouts) and prepare the “key questions 1-7” on the worksheet itself after reading the background material in SA2. The key questions are prepared before class.
- Begin Activity 21 in the workbook by Hanson. Before class, focus only on Model 1, working the Key Questions 1-5 directly following Model 1 on page 133.
- The key questions prepared for these activities may be checked on the daily quiz at the start of class on Wednesday.
After Classes: Always complete the exercises and problems for the
active learning exercise(s) if you did not get them finished in class. It is
important to complete these as they will be checked periodically during the
term.
Background Survey: Due by April

Homework #0 Test
Assignment: To check your use of the drop box and to verify that
you can use your computer to format symbols and equations, Homework 0 is due
at the Catalyst Drop Box by 10 AM on Saturday, April 3, in an assignment named
“Test Assignment.” The homework is found at the course website handouts as HW0. Note
there is no chemistry in HW0; it is entirely to check your use of the word
processing software and of the electronic submission drop box. If this submission
procedure does not work, you need to solve the problem before actual
assignments are due the following week.
