·        Read and study Chapter 2 of Baird. 


 

2.      Problem Set #2  will be due in final form before class on Saturday, April 15.  The final submission of the homework set is to be accomplished electronically.   If you get stuck, try to get help from my by e-mail during the week, rather than spending long periods of time on a problem.

Problem Set #2

  • Problems within Chapter 2 of the text:  [Box 2-1: problems 2 & 4]; [p. 78 prob 2-4]; [p. 96 prob 2-8]; [p.99 prob 2-10];[p.121 prob 2-16]

    Hint:  for prob 2-10, the relevant chemical equation and equilibrium expression for the 2nd ionization of sulfuric acid is:

    At each pH, apply this equation, obtain the ratio of the two sulfur containing species and determine the percentage that is ionized. 

  • “Additional Problems” on pp 137-138 at the end of chapter two: 2.2, 2.8,  and 2.10.

 

This is a long chapter, so I expect that you will be just working through these with a lot of unanswered questions on Wednesday.  That is ok.
