Using the on-line help system

Open the Help Window, using the Help menu. This presents a set of choices for help. Click on Help! for information on using help or Contents for a Table of Contents for the help system. You can also search for topics using either Stata command names or general statistical topics.

  1. Click on Help!. Read the description of the help system. Notice that some words appear in green. Clicking on these words takes you to another help topic. Get back by clicking the Back button.
  2. Get back to the first Help dialog box. Select Lookup and type Mantel-Haenszel in the text box. Click OK. You will get a list of four help topics related to the Mantel-Haenszel test. Two of the topics are not available; they relate to optional commands which are not installed. Click on the green word epitab to get help on the epidemiological tables commands.
  3. Go back to the first Help dialog box. Select Stata command, and type epitab. This gives the same help for the epitab commands. If you know what a command is called this is a quicker way of finding help.
  4. All this help is available from the command line. Click on the Command window and type lookup Mantel-Haenszel or help epitab. You probably don't want to do it this way.

The manuals and User Guide are also available on 4-hour reserve, for library use only, from the reserve desk.
