University of Washington Cognitive and Perception Area: Psychology 541 (Cognition and Perception Seminar)

Psychology 541, the Cognition and Perception graduate seminar meets on Tuesdays at 3:30 for an hour an a half. It is designed for faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates with a relatively extensive background in the fields of cognition and/or perception, as well as a solid knowledge of research design. In general, there is a single speaker each week (usually a faculty member, graduate student, or outside speaker). The talks usually come from the following categories:

Faculty talks: A faculty member from the Cognition and Perception area describes what he or she is doing (see more detailed description)

Practice talks. Psychology 541 is used as a forum for practicing a talk to be given elsewhere, e.g.,
- The Psychology Department Research Festival (first-year students only; last few weeks of Spring Quarter)
- Psychonomics
- Other Conferences

New research: Psychology 541 is used as a forum for presenting new, unformulated ideas with the intent of receiving feedback and guidance.

Outside speakers: Psychology 541 provides outside speakers (e.g., colloquium speakers) to give talks on some specialized topic within the Cognition and Perception areas.
