Graduate student Brian Smart in the Gelb group wins the 2004 Ringold Fellowship. This award is given to students who have made excellent progress in their graduate research in any area of biological chemistry. Howard J. Ringold was one of the founders of Syntex, and he received his college education from UW. He is survived by his wife, who continues to support the fellowship by attending the award ceremony with past and current fellows.
