This endowment is made by Professor Larry R. Dalton and Dr. Nicole A. Boand, in honor of Dr. BoandÕs parents, Harry and Catherine Jaynne Boand.  Born in Kansas in 1918, Harry Boand migrated with his family at an early age to Southern California, where he graduated from Huntington Park High School. He met Jaynne on a tennis court when she was sixteen.  He admired her swing.  Both talented athletes and competitors, they were married two years later following JaynneÕs graduation from Jordan High School.  Harry and Jaynne were married fifty-three years before her death in 1992.   They have three daughters, Lucinda Mc Dermott, Resa Evans, and Nicole Boand.  Harry has a lifelong career as a developer in Southern California.  He began his first business in Southgate in 1945, the Boand Daly Lumber Company.  HarryÕs business interests have branched out to include apartment complexes, restaurants, farming, malls and property management.  He is the author of ÒThe BookÓ and a past president of Huntington Park Rotary.  Jaynne was president of San AntonioÕs ChildrenÕs Hospital Guild and corporate secretary for both Key Management and BomanÕs Incorporated.  Together Harry and Jaynne established the Boand Family Foundation, focusing on education, health care, and urban gardens.  The Harry and Catherine Jaynne Boand Professorship was established to provide the University of Washington the ability to be competitive in recruiting and maintaining high quality faculty in the Department of Chemistry.
