What is ammonia oxidation? > Side reactions occur, too.
Here are all of the reactions that are likely to occur during ammonia oxidation:
4NH3 (ammonia) + 5O2 (oxygen) --> 4NO (nitric oxide) + 6H2O (water)
4NH3 (ammonia) + 6NO (nitric oxide) --> 5N2 (nitrogen) + 6H2O (water)
2NH3 (ammonia) --> N2 (nitrogen) + 3H2 (hydrogen)
2NO (nitric oxide) --> N2 (nitrogen) + O2 (oxygen)
2H2 (hydrogen)+ O2 (oxygen) --> 2H2O (water)
For our modeling of the process we only considered the first three reactions shown.
