Developing the Model

Our model will be developed in four steps. We will start by making some simplifying assumptions, and then add reactor properties step by step.

Model 1

• Total molar flow rate is constant
• Isobaric
• Isothermal

Model 2

• Total molar flow rate changes
• Pressure loss in reactor
• Isothermal

Model 3

• Total molar flow rate changes
• Pressure loss in reactor
• Temperature changes in reactor

Model 4

• Pressure loss in reactor
• Only one reaction: ammonia and oxygen combining to form nitric oxide and water
• Temperature changes in reactor due to heat generation at walls of reactor
• Parabolic flow profile in channel
