The primary goal of my research is to better characterize the structure and dynamics of our Earth through seismic observations and numerical modeling. To this end, I have used seismological techniques (such as shear wave splitting and receiver function analysis) to interrogate seismic anisotropy in subduction zones and continental interiors. I integrate my work with numerical modeling and mineral physics results, with the goal of improving our understanding of past and present tectonic processes. Additionally, I am interested in the character of the seismogenic zone in subduction systems, and relating my work to earthquake hazard assessment.
