Edmond Kay or “doc” as he prefers to be called got his start in medicine as a field medic with the U. S. Marines in Vietnam (1968), awarded the Purple Heart. After the military and thanks to the GI Bill doc was able to return to school and the University of California, San Diego were he worked hard and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Human Biology (who knew?!). Medical School followed at the University of California, San Francisco and in 1980 he moved to Seattle to attend the Swedish Hospital Family Practice Residency.
For the last 23 years he has been a Board Certified Family Physician at Riverton Family Medicine, with extra time devoted to teaching students and teaching Diving Medicine. Dr Kay received his first appointment to University of Washington at the School of Nursing in 1984, and a second in the Department of Family Medicine where he currently is a Clinical Assistant Professor. He is now also Board Certified in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine and is Diving Medical Officer for the University, supervising medical aspects of diving at the schools of Fisheries, Engineering and Oceanography. Currently he can be seen on UWTV Channel 27, in a made for TV lecture called “The Divers Ear”, sponsored by the University.
Doc is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Medical Director of the Divers Institute here in Seattle and a nationally recognized expert in the fields of Family Medicine and Diving Medicine.
