The searching behaviour of 79 end-users of CD-ROM databases was studied a the UCLA campus libraries. The results indicate that users lack basic knowledge on how to search and consequently their searchers are not effective despite their efforts. Users therefore need help through training but most importantly by improving the CD-ROM user interfaces and retrieval systems.
