History
Roots of UBUBT can be traced back 16 generations to Guillanme F. Rouelle at the Paris Apothecary School in 1725.

The predecessor of the UBUBT was founded by Norm Dovichi at the University of Wyoming in 1982. The first student to get her PhD from the group was Fahima Zarrin in 1985. Darryl Bornhop, Dean Burgi, and YungFong Cheng moved the group to the University of Alberta in 1986, whereupon it was named the Northern Lights Laser Lab.
The group moved to the Department of Chemistry, University of Washington, Seattle, WA 98195-1700, on 2000 December, where it has been rechristened as the Union Bay Ultrasensitive Bioanalysis Team. Six students and postdocs (Shen Hu, Amy Dambrowitz, Chris Dambrowitz, David Michels, Le Zhang, and Michael Eggertson) took part in the move. We are occupying four laboratories in the new chemistry building, which provides us with delightfully modern facilities, plus offices in Bagley Hall and the Chemistry Library Building.
