Lab Manual
The lab manual will be available soon. You will need it for the first lab period.
Please come to the laboratory prepared. Read the manual carefully before performing the experiments. The TA will be happy to answer any questions at the beginning of the lab period. Note that there are references at the beginning of some of the experiments. These are on reserve in the Chemistry library, Chem 426 Answer Key. Please read the references before embarking on the experiments.
Upon completing a lab and before leaving the lab area, you must have your T.A. initial the page(s) of data you will eventually be handing in with your lab report.
References
The reference materials listed in the lab manual are now on reserve in the Chemistry Library. There are duplicate copies in white binder notebooks in the copy room.

Laboratory experiments
The laboratory experiments rely on data analysis, which will be performed using Matlab, which is produced by The MathWorks. The first lab period is devoted to learning basic operations with Matlab. We will use the computer lab (BAG48) for the first experiment.
The next three experiments deal with spectrophotometric methods of analysis, and we will use instruments that are in both BAG 83 and BAG 133A. You and your partner will rotate through these experiments during weeks 2-4 of Winter quarter.
The last four experiments deal with separations, electrochemistry, and flow-injection analysis, and we will use instrumetns that are in BAG 83. You and your partner will rotate through these four experiments during the rest of the quarter. Note that January 17 & February 21 are holidays; the Monday section will meet on February 28 and March 7 to finish the experiments.
