Lab Manual
Please come to the laboratory prepared. Read the manual carefully before performing the experiments. The TA will be happy to answer any questions at the beginning of the lab period.
Upon completing a lab and before leaving the lab area, you must have your T.A. initial the page(s) of data you will eventually be handing in with your lab report.

Laboratory experiments
The first four experiments deal with DNA analysis. You will prepare a restriction digest and amplify a piece of DNA by PCR. The products of both the digest and PCR are analyze it by gel electrophoresis. You will be given a tour of the DNA sequencing facility and will be given some sequencing results. You will interpret this data in the fourth lab, which will be held in the computer room-Bagley 48.
The last four experiments deal with protein analysis. You will perform an ELISA assay and separate proteins using SDS-PAGE in the first two labs. You will perform tryptic digestion of a protein and present it for analysis by mass spectrometry in the third lab. The last lab will interpret the data using Mascot or SEQUEST, protein databases.
