Description
This is
an introductory course in research design and methodology for graduate
students. The course goals are:
(1) To develop a basic
understanding of the nature of scientific inquiry (and its relationship
to the "real world").
(2)
To identify problem areas in music and/or teaching, and potential
pathways for their solutions.
(3) To examine research methods commonly employed in music and the
behavioral sciences.
(4) To read and interpret research in music.
(5) To formulate a research purpose and problem statement, and to
locate and review critically the relevant literature.
