The senior seminar portfolio self-assessment is your opportunity to reflect upon your progress as an academic speaker and writer. To provide some guidance and structure for this reflection, IAS is providing you with a questionnaire, which I am distributing in class on Thursday, January 9.
I would like to elaborate on some of the questionnaire items:
The senior seminar portfolio self-assessment will not be graded, but must show an adequate amount of completeness and depth. Although "adequate" is difficult to define, I will look for serious, candid reflection and carefully prepared responses in your self-assessment. As a rough guideline, the work needs to be worthy of a C or better to be acceptable. Portfolio self-assessments that do not reach this standard will require revision, which I shall discuss individually with students who fall into this category. Students who submit a late but otherwise satisfactory senior seminar portfolio self-assessment by the last class meeting will receive a grade 0.2 grade points below what they otherwise would have earned for the course. Students who submit no senior seminar portfolio self-assessment by the last class meeting will receive a grade 0.4 grade points below what they otherwise would have earned for the course.
Two complete, individually stapled copies of the senior seminar portfolio self-assessment are due at the beginning of class on Thursday, January 23. Senior seminar portfolio self-assessments submitted by this deadline will be evaluated and returned within one week. Senior seminar portfolio self-assessments submitted after class begins on January 23 will be evaluated and returned when I have time to read them.
I will evaluate and return one copy of your portfolio self-assessment, and will submit the other (if it is adequate and requires no revision) to the IAS office for the Program's files.
