ADMISSIONS - TRENDS
The University of Washington School of Medicine's mission statement reflects the Center of Excellence philosophy that more health care professionals are needed to serve our underserved communities in the WWAMI region. The COE is committed to recruit interested American Indian/Alaskan Natives (AI/AN) students to our medical school with the hopes of providing them the necessary training to provide quality health care to all of our tribal communities. 

Over the years, the national trend of the AI/AN applicant pool has been decreasing - especially our male applicants. Likewise, the trend for the students applying to the University of Washington has also declined over the years. However, for the first time in years, there was a slight increase in the applicant pool in 2004. FIgure 1 below

depicts the number of American Indian/Alaskan applicants, matriculants and graduates of the University of Washington School of Medicine since its beginnings.  Since 1992, there have been 37 total AI/AN graduates.
