The Diversity Advisory Board is a Dean-appointed board that serves
to advise the Office of Multicultural Affairs in the UW School of
Medicine
on all matters that pertain to diversity within the institution and
community
at large, programs, and activities as they pertain to the School of
Medicine
and the local and regional community.
There are 25 members that have been appointed to
serve on this
Board, and include UW senior administration, faculty, medical students,
and community members at large. The Board meets regularly every 2
months,
and meetings are held on campus of the UW School of Medicine.
Mission Statement of the Diversity Advisory Board (under
development)
The mission of the Diversity Advisory
Board is to guide and help facilitate the efforts of the Office of
Multicultural Affairs to ("accomplish", "build and sustain", "establish
and maintain","attain") diversity within the School of Medicine ("as it
relates to the composition of the medical", "in terms of the medical")
student body, curriculum, residency programs, faculty and
post-doctoral recruitment, and research opportunities. The Diversity
Advisory Board's role is to advise the ("administration","senior
leadership") of our concerns ("as it relates to", "pertaining to")
("diversity issues and policies") and to identify viable resources
which will assist the Office of Multicultural Affairs in achieving its
mission.
Mission
Statement of the Office of Multicultural Affairs
The Office of Multicultural Affairs
is committed to the promotion of diversity within healthcare. In
pursuit of these goals, we are dedicated to:
- Support the academic and professional success of students
who are underrepresented in medicine, including those who have
demonstrated a commitment to working with the underserved populations;
- Serve the health care needs of unserved and underserved
communities by promoting an academic and clinical training environment
that is diverse, collaborative and supportive;
- Enrich the academic and clinical training environment of
the School of Medicine by actively promoting a diverse faculty and
student body which in turn will better prepare medical students and
residents to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse society;
- Endores the attributes of diversity and promote training in
cultural sensitivity among medical students, residents and faculty in
caring for all patients irrespective of ethnicity, culture, gender,
sexual orientation, religion or disability.
