–In east: Tatar khanates (kingdoms) disintegrated were easy pray:
– KazanÕ – central Volga 1552
– AstrakhanÕ – mouth of Volga 1556
– built fortresses – Samara (Kuybyshev in Soviet times), Saratov, Voronezh &
– Tsaritsyn (Stalingrad, Volgograd) 1586-1590
