Brandi Cossairt
Assistant Professor of Chemistry, University of Washington
Brandi is originally from Miami, FL. She received her B.S. in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology in 2006, where she carried out undergraduate research with Prof. Jonas C. Peters. From Caltech, she headed to the east coast to pursue her PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In the lab of Prof. Christopher C. Cummins, she studied the synthesis of phosphorus-rich molecules using early transition metal complexes and low valent phosphorus precursors. After completing graduate school, she headed off to the big apple to study semiconductor nanocrystal synthesis at Columbia University with Assistant Professor Jonathan Owen as an NIH postdoctoral fellow. In July 2012, she moved to Seattle, WA to start her independent career as an assistant professor of chemistry at the University of Washington. Her research interests are at the interface of small molecule and material synthesis with a focus on solar energy capture and solar fuels generation. She teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses in inorganic and materials chemistry. When she’s not in lab, Brandi enjoys reading, yoga, snowboarding, hiking, and playing with her kitties.
