The UWME Design for Environment Lab promotes Sustainability and Design for Environment (DFE) through the advancement of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Industrial Ecology (IE).

Life Cycle Assessment Data

Accessibility to LCA data, e.g., for Product Category Rules (PCRs) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), is improving in large part due to national database development efforts.

USDA LCA Digital Commons

Open source data, like that in the USDA LCA Digital Commons, promise more transparency for LCAs. Features include data parameterization and extended meta data.

ME395 Introduction to Design


Project Description

Teams of 5-6 students will execute the design process from planning, concept development, and concept selection/justification.  Each team will prepare only three reports:

Note that the midterm design report should only contain the introduction, bibliography, and appendices (as needed) as described in the design report template. The final design report must include an updated version of the midterm report sections (e.g., edits responding to comments from the instructor/ TAs and/or edits due to issues during the quarter) and must add the remaining required sections in the design report template.
