Abstract for SimLab #7 - The First Law of Thermodynamics on a Spreadsheet

In this lab you will learn the following:

(1) How work done in expanding a gas against a constant pressure compares with work done in lifting an object against the force of gravity.

(2) How the concept of reversible work is derived as a limiting case of an infinite number of irreversible processes.

(3) How isothermal and adiabatic processes differ when they are carried out irreversibly.

(4) How isothermal and adiabatic processes differ when they are carried out reversibly.

To prepare for this lab you should read sections 1-4 and 6 of Chapter 7 and appendix C-5 of your text book. Pay special attention to Figures 7-16 and 7-17, because we will be duplicating these.
