Abstract for Lecture #7 - The Electron Pair Model of the Covalent Chemical Bond

In this lecture we will show how covalent chemical bonds are formed between atoms by sharing electrons. The Lewis model describes the number of electrons shared when the connectivity patterns of the atoms is known. The bookkeeping of the electrons is easily performed on a spreadsheet.

In this lecture, we also describe polar covalent molecules by the parameters electronegativity and dipole moment.

To prepare for this lecture, we suggest that you read sections 3-4 and 3-5 of Oxtoby.
