Abstract for Lecture #13 - Molecular Interpretation of Phase; Intermolecular Forces

We will interpret bulk properties of solids, liquids and gases in terms of the molecular nature of mater.

We will describe the various types of intermolecular interactions in terms of molecular structure.

To prepare for this lecture, we suggest that you read sections 5-1 and 5-2 of Oxtoby.

We will be visualizing the molecular motions of water molecules in the liquid state. You might want to down load the movie and observe it at your leisure. You will find it at: http://www-wilson.ucsd.edu/education/statmech/smintrowhat.html

We will be visualizing brownian diffusion. This java applet may be seen at http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/6175/BTinstructions.html
