Abstract for ExpLab#2 - Percent Copper and Formula Weight of a Copper Compound

The objective of this lab is to determine the percent by mass of copper in an unknown compound and from this to obtain the formula mass of the compound. The approach taken is to first weigh out the compound, dissolve it in aqueous solution and then reduce the copper ions to metallic copper with magnesium metal. The metallic copper is then collected by filtration, washed, dried and weighed.

To prepare for this lab, we suggest that you read the lab manual very carefully before coming to class.
