Abstract for Lecture #20 - (a) The Nature of Acids and Bases; (b) Acid Strength; (c) The pH Scale; (d) Calculating the pH of Strong Acids

The Bronsted-Lowry definition of acids and bases is given. Conjugate acids and bases are given.

Strong and weak acids and bases are defined in terms of the their equilibrium positions.

The pH scale is introduced.

Finally, we show how to derive the pH of concentrated solutions of strong acids.
