Micro 301 General Microbiology (Spring and Summer) Anderson, Lara Acquaints students with microorganisms and their activities. Topics include microbial cell structure and function, metabolism, genetics, and the role of microorganisms in disease, immunity, and other selected applied areas. 3 credits. Prerequisite: either CHEM 120, CHEM 140, CHEM 142, or CHEM 145; recommended:biology, organic chemistry.
Micro 302 General Microbiology Laboratory (Summer) Anderson, Chandler Laboratory course primarily for students taking Micro 301. Covers a variety of microbiological techniques, with experiments designed to illustrate major concepts of bacteriology, virology, and immunology. 2 credits. Recommended: MICRO 301, which may be taken concurrently.
Micro 431 Prokaryotic Recombinant DNA Techniques (Winter) Anderson, Chandler Laboratory course emphasizing concepts and techniques/methodologies in recominbant DNA research. Topics and experiments/demonstrations include genomic and plasmid DNA isolation, restriction mapping, cloning, transposon mutagenesis, sequencing, and Western and Southern blotting. 3 credits. Prerequisite: either BIOL 200 or BIOL 201.
Micro 443 Medical Microbiology Laboratory (Autumn, Winter) Anderson, Chandler, Fulton Procedures for isolation and identification of pathogenic bacteria and testing their susceptibility to antibiotics. 3 credits. Prerequisite: either BIOL 200 or BIOL 201.
Micro 444 Medical Mycology and Parasitology (Spring) White, Schmer, Anderson, Fulton Consideration of medically important fungi and parasites, with emphasis on their biology in relation to disease and its laboratory diagnosis. 4 credits. Prerequisite: either BIOL 200 or BIOL 201.
